Chris Rucker, APOCALYPSE AFTER PARTY
January 18 through March 3, 2019
Reception: Sunday, January 27 from 4 – 6 pm

GRIDSPACE is pleased to present APOCALYPSE AFTER PARTY, an installation by Chris Rucker. Born in Hartford, CT in 1972, Chris Rucker has been based in New York City since 1996. He is a sculptor, builder, cabinet maker, contractor, designer, upholsterer, quilter, textile artist and painter. All of these practices fall under the rubric of RUCKERCORP. For over 20 years, Chris’s artistic practice and his day job have had a symbiotic relationship, it is nearly impossible to tell where one stops and the other begins. For his site-specific installation at GRIDSPACE, Chris will install a familiar structure that is, traditionally, meant to hide “the work.” His construction fence is just that – but it is also a sculpture, a painting and a peephole. It is meant to be seen and unseen and seen through, all at the same time. APOCALYPSE AFTER PARTY is permeable; flickering in the afternoon traffic, the afternoon light. Chris is also producing a limited edition poster for the exhibition, visible to the curious through cut outs in the fence.
